RE: Best Moto Memories of 2008

You sound very influencial, getting all those guys to ride again. I'm sure GM could use you as a salesman.:) Glad to hear they took the MSF course, it's the best deal around. Have a happy and safe New Year and Ride Safely!

RE: Close Call's and Crashes!

That was a good post! Lots of valuable tips for all riders to know. I know I learned something from it. Tomorrow, is supposed to be in the high 50's, low 60's! Not bad for a Dec. day in New England! I will be out there taking advantage of the freak weather. Enjoy the ride and Ride Safely!

RE: Close Call's and Crashes!

I live in a small town in CT. A couple of years ago the powers that be placed a stop sign on one street that intersects the street I live on. Prior to that, people generally stopped to make sure it was clear to go, but I guess someone complained and that explains the stop sign. Not too long after the stop sign was added, I was riding my bike toward the intersection, There was no stop sign for me, just for the other vehicle. As I approached the intersection I saw a car approaching the intersection. The car was driven by a young kid and he had a girl in the front seat. I know he saw me approaching the intersection, and I know he had a stop sign, the problem was he didn't! You can guess what happened. Fortunately I was able to out manuver the car. I didn't drop the bike. It all happened so quick, it was over before I knew it! I remember being told in MCS class that "the bike will go where you look". That is exactly what happened! One week later, there was another stop sign added to that intersection. Now it should be fool proof!

RE: Winter Blue's

The weather forcasters predicted exactly what we got! One foot of snow and very cold temps with moderate wind, right now it's 18 degrees and it's 5:50 PM. Had to get my driveway plowed twice! Now they are predicting rain and 40 deg. for Wed! Less than a week ago it was 58 deg. That was the last time I went riding. CT. weather is very fickle and unpredictable, just like a woman.:@

RE: Winter Blue's

Lol, Is that good or bad?:D Been there a couple of times and really don't know if my wife could stand the heat and humidity, I could get used to it as long as the AC worked! It sure is a beautiful state. I guess one of the advantages in living in such a place as CT. .....it gives a Biker something to look forward to.....at least thats what my wife says. Wives seem to have a way with words.....something to look forward to, yeah sure! :C Ride Safely!

RE: Winter Blue's

I went riding too! It was 58 degrees here in CT. and I couldn't turm that down! Gotta admit, for MC riding, Fla. sounds just about right this time of year. Not too many rides left for me in 08', but there is always next year! Ride Safely!

RE: Winter Blue's

I rode one once. Many years ago our local golf driving range used to offer snowmobile riding for a slight fee in the off season. Of course they all had governors on them and I believe max speed was 35 mph. It was a fun thing but not the same as riding a MC. I imagine places like Montana would be perfect for it. Ride Safely!

RE: New Years Day ride

I just checked BMW out. BMW trades in Europe. See: http://investing.businessweek.com/research/stocks/charts/charts.asp? symbol=BMWG.DE I was afraid of what I was going to find. Not too surprising since the economy in general is not good. It's beginning to look like the Japanese based companies are better off than the American and European based companies. The big question now I guess is, why? Ride Safely!

RE: Winter Blue's

I just tough it out! If you are so inclined, and want to spend the dough, or can spend the dough, there is the snowmobiling scene! I think that is for people who have the money and have the advantage of early snow season!

RE: New Years Day ride

Not a good sign, especially from a Co. like BMW. Do you think they are in trouble too or is it the economy?

RE: Is Victory a silent American?

Initially my VStar proved to be uncomfortable on longer rides. I mentioned it to members of a V-Star board that I also frequent (delphiforums.com), and they suggested replacing the stock seat. As one guy put it "all stock seats suck"! Apparently stock seats have a reputation I was not aware of. I bought a new Corbin Solo seat on eBay and it was a huge improvement. I got the Corbin for $145.00 on eBay and sold the stock seat for $50.00. So it wound up costing $100.00 for a much better seat. Ride Safely!

RE: Is Victory a silent American?

How long did you have the V-Rod? What made you want to give it up? I remember when they first came out and the excitement was pretty heavy. I thought they were/are a great looking bike. They had solid wheels and I remember reading about some of the problems they had with windshear and front end vibration. One guy, I believe was on this board, had a bad problem with FE vibration. It seems the dealer tried to fill in the wheel spoke gaps with insulation foam. A kind of attempt to "balance" the front wheel. The guy was in a real dilemma. I don't recall how that was resolved. Ride Safely!

RE: Is Victory a silent American?

I can't disagree with your post at all. Actually, I kind of fell into owning my VStar 650 Classic. I was checking out bikes for my buddy who wanted to get one for his wife. I spotted it in the local news paper and mentioned it to him. The add ran for three weeks! This was back in Nov. 2001. At that time I was riding my 2000 Virago 250cc, which I bought from the original owner. It had 92 miles on it and the owner decided she didn't like riding a MC! This was a yuppie couple with no kids. Her husband was selling his Roadster. At the time I was just getting into riding and thought the Roadstar was too big for me! Yeah I know, that was dumb! Anyway, long story short, I checked out the VStar, it was love at first sight, but I called my buddy on the spot to tell him the bike was mint, he wasn't interested! She had 3800 miles on her and I bought her for $3800! A buck a mile! I don't think he ever forgave me about it, I tried to be helpful. You are right about the compliments about the bike. I get "nice Harley" many times at stop lights from strangers. I stopped correcting them, why spoil it for them! I do most of my own maintenance. Oil changes are straight forward and very cheap. I buy my filters from JC Whitney and oil from Walmart. I believe the VStar models are the "bread and butter" of Yahama motorcycles. They are reasonably priced, look good and are very reliable. Ride Safely!

RE: Is Victory a silent American?

Grippy, I had to laugh at your distaste for Indian styling only because there I was, so much into it and you are not. It just struck me as funny. :) It is interesting how different styles appeal to different people. I'm more into the cruiser look, like the VStar. But I can understand other peoples likes and dislikes too. The one thing I don't get is the position one has to be in to ride a sport bike. It looks almost like one is lying down! I guess you have to be a young person to enjoy it. Old farts like me like Cruisers. Ride Safely

RE: Is Victory a silent American?

Talking about "pricey"? Check out the new Indians! IMO they have that "look" only Indian has. I like it, but the out the door price starts somewhere in the high 30's. I believe this is the second attempt to revive the brand. I would like to see them succeed but they couldn't have picked a worst time to do it, with the economy they way it is. I imagine they won't be making too many in 09'. If you are interested see: www.indianmotorcycle.com. PS Sorry for going off topic. I was more involved with "pricey" than Victory. But yes, Victory too is up there in price. Is it completely American made or American assembled?

RE: New Member HI All!

Welcome to the board! I ride a 00' VStar, 650 Classic and really like it. How is your new 1300? I imagine it falls inline with the rest of the VStars as a good bike for the price. They sure are good looking. Ride Safely!
